Lake Louisa Run For The Playground 5K
When: Saturday, May 24, 2014
Time: 7:30AM Start
Where: Lake Louisa State Park, 7305 Hwy 27, Clermont, FL
Distances: 5K (3.1 miles) Run or Walk
Courses: Runners/Walkers will enjoy this beautiful USATF certified 5K (3.1 mile) course through a tree lined, paved out and back course through Lake Louisa State Park. At the half way marker, be prepared for the infamous Tortoise Mound. REMEMBER: “Wildlife will have the right of way.”
Awards: Top Overall Male and Female. Top Male and Female per age group.
Entry Fees: Through May 19: $20, May 20 – May 24: $25, Race Day: $30
Packet Pick-Up: Only on the day of the race from 6:00AM at the race site.
Parking: As soon as you enter the park, you will be directed by volunteers on where to park.
Nature Fest will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014 on the main beach at Lake Louisa.
“Get Outside and see Florida”! Don’t miss this family event at Lake Louisa State Park and sponsored by The Friends of Lake Louisa State Park. Nature Fest is for the whole family with activities designed to raise awareness of outdoor recreation, how to stay safe while hiking, and being healthy in Florida. Discover fascinating facts about the plants, animals, and history of Florida’s environment and ecosystems through demonstrations, activities, and guided hikes. Learn how to get a close-up view of the natural world respectfully. Meet the Rangers of Lake Louisa State Park and Scott Spaulding, our Manager, with his awesome snakes. Local businesses and organizations will be on hand to show how guests can become more “green” in their day to day living.
Speaker Series at Lake Louisa State Park Featuring Kathy Malone, Butterfly Expert
As part of their fourth Friday speakers series, the Friends of Lake Louisa State Park welcome Kathy Malone to the park on Friday, March 28th at 7:00pm.
Kathy Malone recently retired from the University of Florida in Gainesville where she developed the Community ButterflyScaping concept as the builder and developer coordinator for Florida- Friendly Landscaping(TM). Also while at UF, she co-authored a national science curriculum, Project Butterfly WINGS: Winning Investigative Network for Great Science. Kathy founded two Florida chapters of the North American Butterfly Association and is an avid butterfly photographer. She coordinated surveys of rare butterflies for the Florida Natural Areas Inventory. She worked at the South Florida Water Management District for nearly 20 years and authored the first edition of their award-winning recreation guide to public lands. Kathy has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from UF, and a master’s in education from Palm Beach Atlantic University. She hails from High Springs, a small community near Gainesville.
This is a free event open to the public. Donations are always welcomed to help the Friends raise funds to construct and ADA accessible limitless playground at the park for all in the community to enjoy. Space is limited for this event, so please RSVP to (352) 394-3969.
An Evening of Music by the Campfire on the Beach of Lake Louisa
As part of their monthly fourth Friday speakers’ series, the Friends of Lake Louisa State Park invite you to attend a fun evening of live music by the campfire on the main beach of Lake Louisa. This is a free event open to the public. The fun will start at 7:00 pm on Friday, February 28th. Bring a chair, blanket (insect spray, just in case), and fixin’s for S’mores and settle in for a great event! Come make some new friends and meet some members of the Friends of Lake Louisa State Park. Donations are always welcome to help us in our efforts to construct an ADA accessible limitless playground at the park for use by all in our community. This is sure to be a fun night for the whole family. We hope to see you there!
